Situated in a modest gravel lot on Airline Drive, Tacos Guanajuato is a hidden gem that proudly serves authentic Mexican street tacos with an unbeatable hometown charm. This taco restaurant delivers an experience that transcends the ordinary, offering a unique dual-family-run setup that brings two distinct taco traditions to the table.
Start your day with their morning offerings—succulent cabeza (barbacoa) and rich, tender birria (goat) tacos, each bite bursting with robust, slow-cooked flavors that echo the heart of Mexican culinary heritage. As the sun sets, the second family takes over with an irresistible evening menu featuring classic tacos al pastor, hearty bistek (beef), and flavorful fajita tacos.
Whether you prefer your tacos wrapped in plain corn tortillas or enjoy the melty, cheesy indulgence of quesadillas, Tacos Guanajuato offers a simple yet deeply satisfying approach to Mexican comfort food.
The atmosphere here is genuinely unpretentious—an old trailer set against a humble gravel lot—but what it lacks in fancy décor, it more than makes up for in authenticity and flavor. This no-frills setting invites patrons to focus entirely on the food, which many agree is “Mexico City quality,” served with impressive speed and generosity. With tacos priced incredibly reasonably—just a couple of dollars each—you get authentic flavors without breaking the bank, making this spot a beloved neighborhood staple.
Longtime fans, like Dennise L Rosales who has been visiting for over six decades, praise the generous portions and lightning-fast service, while newcomers like Mason Jenkins can’t stop raving about how fair the prices are for food that tastes so expertly crafted. And be warned, the charm of this place comes with its quirks—watch out for potholes as you pull in, but don’t let that deter you from what’s undoubtedly a culinary treasure.
Tacos Guanajuato offers a deeply satisfying, authentic taco experience that will captivate your taste buds and keep you coming back for more. It’s a true taste of Mexico city streets, right in the heart of Houston, perfect for devoted taco lovers seeking genuine flavors without fuss.

Best taco stand. Two different families run it. In the morning one of the families has cabeza(barbacoa) and birria(goat) tacos. During the night the second family sells tacos de pastor, bistek(beef), fajita. You can order your tacos in plain corn tortillas or quesadillas.

Unassuming gravel lot with an old trailer. Super, super fair prices. $2 tacos and $3 quesadilla. The two plates you see in this photo were $10. Really, really good. Mexico City quality tacos. If I was local I’d be here everyday.
